Welcome to St. James. We have a broad range of worship styles at St. James. If you are looking for a quiet, conservative traditional Anglican Service then 9 am Sunday mornings is for you. However, if you are looking for a service which is cross generational but focuses on children, youth and their families then 10:30 am Sunday morning is your time slot. Sundays@5.30pm is our Youth and Young Adults Service However, you may like the idea of being involved in a new church plant amongst the people of West Heidelberg. Then, please join us at 10am each Saturday. Of course our Chinese congregation worships each Sunday at 1.30pm as well. Whichever church service you attend our Leadership Team will make ourselves known to you and we will share with you how you can become a part of our church family.
Questions?
Where is St James?
252 Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe, Victoria 3079. We’re just over the road from the old Ivanhoe Town hall and next to Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. There’s a big map at the bottom of this page.
Is there parking?
We have virtually no parking on the church grounds. We have a drive in, drive out area to drop off disabled or elderly people. The best place to park is either in Noel Street (take note of the no parking signs), in Upper Heidelberg Road, or in the car park across Upper Heidelberg Rd attached to the Ivanhoe Centre.
How long are the services?
Generally our services go for between 1hr and 1 and 1/4 hours.
Are kids welcome?
Kids are always welcome. We especially cater for children on Saturday at 10 am at 3081 – West Heidelberg, Sunday at 10:30 am where we have a specific program for all children above 3 years old, and at our Chinese service on Sunday afternoon
What should I wear?
We are not fussy about what you wear to church. We are a relaxed group of people whose priority is that you feel comfortable when you come.
How do I meet people?
The best way to start meeting is to stay behind after church as we meet for fellowship. All our services are followed by morning tea and that is the best chance of starting to get to know us.
What time should I arrive?
The best time to arrive is about 5 minutes prior to starting time. However, we welcome you at any time. You need not feel embarrassed if you arrive after the start time. Welcomers will be close at hand to guide you to a seat.
Do I need to bring anything?
No, just bring yourself and your family. We do have an offering which is the way we acknowledge our love for God and which enables us to fund our ministries. However, as a first time attender there is no pressure to give money when the offering plate is passed around. In time if you want to belong to our church, freewill giving is part of our life in following Jesus.
What if I’m not a Christian?
If you are not a Christian, you will find us a place where every question is taken seriously and we welcome those who are earnestly trying to discover the truth about Jesus and the Christian faith.
What does Anglican mean?
The Anglican Church is the Australian equivalent of the Church of England. Although we are independent of the Church of England we derive all our doctrines from the church of England. St James is an Evangelical Anglican Church, which means we place a high priority on the bible as the authoritative word of God and we seek to apply the message of the bible in our modern context.
