Scott Wilson, a Pastor of Oak Fellowship in Texas, makes the following points of what it means to have the Spirit transform our lives. He argues that the following qualities mark the genuinely Spirit – filled life:
1. The Spirit will make you passionate about Worship and Prayer
2. The Spirit will make us hungry for the Word of God
3. The Spirit gives us deeper love for one another
4. The Spirit makes us a fearless and compassionate witness for Jesus
5. The Spirit makes us selfless and generous people who are eager to give
These are all important elements of the power of the Spirit working in our lives. It is so important that we worship and pray with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. It is so important that we hunger to read God’s word. It is so important that we are motivated by a deep love for Jesus. It is so important that we speak about Jesus boldly but in a caring and loving way. It is so important that we are giving people. It is certainly the work of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives which inspires us in these five areas.
However, equally important is the whole area that Spirit filled Christians exhibit the fruit of the Spirit. Paul writes that the fruit of the Spirit is, ‘love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.’ The signs of a Spirit-filled life are seen in Christians exhibiting all these qualities in their lives. From time to time, the pressures of life can quench the Spirit in our lives. Sometimes it requires us to take some time in prayer to pray and invite the Spirit to fill us with His fruit and well as his passion.
